Mana-Sama's TGS Report Sequel: Impressions of the XboxOne, and then

In last month's issue I did a report on TGS 2013, but in the end by the time I finished I had pretty much stayed on the topic of the PS4, so this time I'd like to touch on a different subject.

Impressions of the black ship, the Xbox Series, that began its invasion in 2002

First of all will be about one more state-of-the-art piece, the Xbox One! ......that said, before that I want to quickly take a look back on my memories concerning the Xbox series.

My memories of the first generation Xbox are from when it raided Japan and I got really excited. Shibuya was captured in Xbox green, and at the time of its renewal, the marui building opened up an Xbox cafe and I felt the enthusiasm of Microsoft.

The biggest phenomenon was at the Xbox announcement of a prototype console that had opened demonstrations to the public. I was taken aback by the originality of the mirror finish solid body that took the form of an X; it was something that really felt like the next generation. Of course in practice what went on for sale was not the prototype, but something that had an X displayed on the top of the rectangular body, and a green icon shined in the center. The Xbox had a great presentation, and for me it definitely was my most favorite design.

The next thing that was introduced was the current model, the Xbox360. The console stood vertically and seemed to consciously look like the design of the PS2. Well, as a matter of fact, the console that had introduced the vertical standing design well before all the others was the super-minor PC-FX.

However, what still remains a mystery of the Xbox360 even today is it's naming. At the point of changing it into a series, they realized that contrary to expectations it would have been a considerable risk. Actually, there were rumours spreading of a next generation console with stories like, "There might be an Xbox720 next."

If you look at the results, it turns out it was the XboxOne, but even this naming is something very mysterious. Although its the 3rd console its given the title 1; for general users in society, isn't it confusing to give it that [name]?

In comparison to the PS4, how is the performance and design?
A review with my true opinions on the XboxOne

As for the XboxOne, naturally I was able to touch the actual machine at the TGS venue. After my car game choice on the PS4, I next decided to test out "Forza Motorsports 5". The impression I had concerning the graphics is that they were identical to the PS4. That is to say, it was kind of like, "Its probably beautiful to somebody, but once you've already experienced it its not really surprising." The XboxOne is probably just completely aiming towards home livingroom entertainment. The fundamental console design was like simple consumer electronics, and the consept design basically resembled the PS4. Personally, I was extremely sad that the Xbox's green icon has become monotone (cries).

By the way, concerning methodology of living room style consumer electronics, my best console that I use with my entertainment system is the 3DO REAL. However, the concept isn't anything new. None the less, the 3DO came out before the PC became widely popularized. Their concept came too early for those days, but finally you can say the times have caught up with it. The PS4 and Xbox One both are equally having to basically fight on the SNS/ONLINE route. As a result which one do you expect to be the winner?

An aesthetic world fascinating Mana-Sama!?
What social game captured his attention?

Its been a long time since I visited the TGS venue and the SNS style games really stood out. Within such SNS style game booths, the girl's game corner captured my attention. One in particular that stood out was, dare I say, from a TV CM that everyone has probably seen at least once, the Voltage booth that had "Kiss of Revenge". To tell you the truth, I've been captivated by this CM [*translation note, CM is short for Commercial].

With a wine glass in front, a man and woman cuddle close together. The woman, wearing a red dress, holds a glistening knife in her hand. The man is laying on a bed. The woman holds the knife up to his neck. The man says, "Do you want to kill me? If you do, then kill me..." From there, the narration comes in, saying, "Would you play for love or revenge?" and roses flutter downwards.

A modern version aestshetic world drifts in the air in this CM, so the visual style is something that lead me to it. That said, it was a rare [opportunity] so I took a commemorative photo with a panel that the Voltage booth had established for a game under the same firm called "A Sudden Kiss of Oath". Thus my visitation to TGS for the first time in many years came to an end.

With the rise of SNS, I continue to think about this era, but as a game hardware lover I can't help but feel a tinge of loneliness. That just means I'm going to be pinning a lot of hope onto the PS4 and the XboxOne.

Footnote:
I was a little bit embarrassed to take a picture with the panel, but according to the chief editor, it seems there are quite a few girls who are into Voltage's works. But honestly even I was interested in the game (laughs). (Mana)

There were a number of interesting things about this article, I thought. One thing in particular that caught my attention was when Mana mentions hes not sure why the name "Xbox One" was chosen, especially seeing as its the third in the line of Xbox consoles.
この記事は面白いと思う。XboxOneのネーミングの部分について特に気になった。

I don't know if many of you actually keep up with video game information, but one thing I noticed after the Xbox One and PS4 were presented at E3 this past year (2013) was that many people were talking about the name Xbox One as a pun for "Xbox Won".
I'm not going to claim this as the real reason why Microsoft chose this name, but I thought it was clever regardless.
Ironically, I would say Xbox really wasn't the one who won that war after all (technical difficulties, inferior presentation, etc)...

In the spirit of trying not to turn this entry into a novel, I'll leave my commentary at that this time. I've got a few exciting things planned to update about on here soon, so if Game Lab isn't your cup of tea there is more content coming soon about a few other topics I think everyone is really going to enjoy!
まぁ小説になりたくないので、こちらに感想を終わったらいいでしょう。
しかしながら、将来はここに色んな楽しい更新を準備中!
少々、お待ちください〜!
