Dis inferno XIV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The costumes were amazing! The performance was fun! The concert as a whole was really wonderful!!
So this time the live was held at Duo Music Exchange, which upon finding was decorated with a few Christmas ornaments and flowers from ESP.
This time around I was number A 50, so I entered the venue pretty early on and found a good spot in the second row in front of Seth!
By the way, this time around I wore full EGA for the first time.
I know this picture doesn't show my full outfit, but I'll post more pictures after talking about the concert itself.
The concert started out a bit differently than normal, but it was fully of energy!
The first thing to happen was all the lights went out and suddenly the new SE Destruction XXX started playing with the lights on stage flashing all different colors.
For those who don't know the new SE, check it out in the latest video posted on the Moi dix Mois youtube account!
In fact, the video above was the full on intro to the concert! Not only did they start with Destruction XXX but immediately as all members entered the stage they went right in to Deus ex Machina in the exact same way as the video. Essentially as you watch those first 49 seconds, you're watching the first 49 seconds of Dis inferno XIV.
Speaking of the beginning of the concert, I should also mention how everyone looked this time.
Hayato came out first wearing some kind of tight fitting two part black top (basically like a tank top and long sleeve shirt over it, but the neck of the shirt felt down past his shoulders) with holes all through it, next was Sugiya who had on what looked like a Moitie-like black blouse? it was kind of ruffly/lacy with a red tie and a huge silver cross pinned to the tie. Then he had kind of a black pleated skirt with black pants, similar to the Hong Kong live
Then was Ryux with really baggy black pants and a black shirts with some writing on the back side of the shirts. His make up was pretty unique this time as well, with his face painted white and red, as can be seen from a recent twitter post he made:
Moi dix Mois、LAST YEAR PARTY@渋谷duo楽しんで貰えたかな？— kawamoto ryusuke (@RYU59) December 17, 2016
To be honest, I really loved his whole look this time. His style is so crazy and unique, but it works so well!!
After Ryux was Mana, wearing the Moi-meme-Moitie Fall Cross print shirt, really short shorts, lacy tights, the blue and black top part of the puffy skirt he usually wears (meaning it wasn't the full skirt, if that makes sense), a really wide black belt, a huge necklace laced with bones coming out of it, the new Moi-meme-Moitie Angel Cross over knee socks in blue that were released today, and his usual huge black boots.
The guitar Mana came out on stage with first today was also his new(er) BC Rich Warlock Revenge in white
Actually, I wonder how many people know this, but the BC Rich Warlock was used in Motley Crue. Mana owns some kind of figurine set of Motley Crue from their Shout at the Devil period with Nikki Sixx holding a white BC Rich Warlock. I can't help but imagine this is probably where some of the influence comes from to own that guitar.
But moving forward, the last one to enter the stage was Seth, with his huge brown fur coat, a fishnet shirt underneath, really tight black pants, and this huge chain necklace with a white skull on it.
In one way or another, Ryux, Mana, and Seth all had some kind of decoration that depicted bones. Ryux may have been the least obvious, just with a skull knob on his guitar and the skull lighter he carries around with him that belonged to K.
The first several songs were all sort of electronic in theme, so it gave me the impression that perhaps this live was focusing more on industrial style Moi dix Mois music, but eventually it took a turn into Twilight Flower which seemed to open the door to more typical songs.
Rather than, explain it, I'm sure you would all be interested in the set list, right?
1. SE Destruction XXX
2. Deus ex Machina
4. Night Breed
5. Twilight Flower
6. Invite to Immorality
7. Nocturnal Romance
9. The SECT
10. Material Death
12. Neo Pessimist
13. IMMORTAL MADNESS
14. Dead Scape
15. Ange~D side holy wings~
17. Beast Side (Mana drum session)
One thing that kind of surprised me at this concert was how much more Seth seemed to get into the feel of the music. Hes always been an energetic performer, but I really noticed this time around how he would sometimes make attempts to act out some scenarios that went along with the songs. For instance, during Nocturnal Romance there were times where he walked over to the edge of the platform the drum set was on and would sit in this contemplative type pose when singing, or at Invite to Immorality he kinda scrunched his body, crossing his arms and holding on to his shoulders, almost giving you the image of some kind of demon falling to earth. Maybe thats a strange description, but thats the impression I was given based on his actions. Typically he usually goes about the same motions, doing a bit of fan service-y type dances near Mana, but this time was true showmanship!
They also talked a lot about this concert being a "big end of the year party" with Ryux making a lot of emphasis on that point.
The message from Mana at the MC was pretty long this time around. First of all, he asked if everyone was enjoying the concert (as always), but when he wasn't satisfied with the yelling out at first, he started making somewhat aggressive motions with his hands pointing up, up that he wanted everyone to yell out more. After they did, he then went up and whispered to Seth and Ryux who both looked at him with extremely confused looks on their faces, so when that didn't work, he started flicking his hands and jumping, and Seth said that at the next yell, Mana wants everyone to jump up and down and flick their hands out (like making hand motions to resemble something shining or sparkling). Eventually everyone did it and thought it was pretty funny. Mana then went up to Hayato and Sugiya and made the same motions at them that they have to jump and do the hand movements as well, so all the members eventually started doing the same thing and Hayato even came down from the drum set to jump around on stage too. He then started running around and high fiving Seth and Ryux before running back to the drum set.
Afterwards Mana talked about the necklace he was wearing with the bones on it. It turns out he made it himself, and so he wrote on the message Seth was reading out that he wanted to explain how he made it. Seth started laughing when he saw the "let me explain it" part of the message. He must not have read the whole message until the time of the MC because he made comments like "Seriously? I have to read a whole explanation?" and Mana nodded.
Afterwards, he said something about he wanted to interact with everyone in real time at the live, but to be honest, I couldn't really understand what that part was about. Seth read out various questions that people were randomly raising their hands to. It seems the friends I had around me couldn't quite understand either...I wonder what it was about?
Anyway, the end of the message talked about the next concert, Mana's Birthday live on Saturday March 18 and Sunday March 19!!!!
It will also be the 25th anniversary of Mana as an artist, so everyone cheered and clapped at that comment.
The March 18th live will be at Mt. Rainier Hall Shibuya Pleasure Pleasure as it has been for the past few years now, and the March 19th live will be at TSUTAYA O-WEST.
Since the March 19th live will be on Mana's actual birthday, Seth made a comment about it saying "Its on Mana's real birthday, so it should be pretty exciting then!" and once again Mana nodded in agreement to his comment as everyone in the audience cheered.
Finally, once all the announcements were finished, Seth raised his voice to scream out the name of the next song, Material Death!
Once IMMORTAL MADNESS played, a lot more excitement started happening again. Seth was deciding on the key word for the song, but Mana eventually made him tell everyone to yell out "LOVE" while making a heart shape with our hands, and then yelling "Kyuuu!" and raising our hands up. In the middle of the song, Mana went back and got a bag of snacks from Hiroshima and tried showing it off before standing at the edge of the stage and trying to open it in front of everyone, but all the snacks kept falling onto the floor, so he finally took the bag, and started reaching in and throwing it out into the audience. What came as even more of a surprise was that he suddenly got onto the ground level between the stage and the barricade where everyone is standing and starting throwing out candy to everyone in the front. I never have any kind of expectation that I can catch anything he throws out, and particularly being as close to the front I am, he usually tries to aim a little bit further back, but to my surprise one fell directly into my hands!
Its called Carp Katsu and its Okonomiyaki Sauce flavor. I've seen this before in Hiroshima, and I saw several years ago in Mon+amour when he gave these out as a prize to some fans, but to be honest I've always hesitated to try it...
Maybe not tonight, but I will try it soon and post something about it for those who are curious!(｀･ω･)
After handing out all the snacks, Mana then ran to the back of the venue and walked around among the audience members in the very back. They even continued playing IMMORTAL MADNESS and he jumped around with the audience pretending to watch the show with them! It was a bit hard to see him back there at first but when he started jumping you could see him smiling and laughing a bit. It was a really fun touch that you wouldn't typically see at most Moi dix Mois lives!
Eventually he got back on stage, and then made Ryux switch guitars with him, still continuing on with IMMORTAL MADNESS! Ryux seemed to be really surprised by it, but when he received Mana's white Jeune Fille (he had changed from the Warlock to the Jeune Fille Gips Crossray after the MC) he started yelling out "I HAVE THE JEUNE FILLE!!!" Sugiya and Ryux then started messing with the dials and making the cross in the center flash it's red light. Everyone in the audience was laughing and cheering for them being so excited by it. Ryux then requested that they change the keyword during the song to 「Jeune filleだぜ！」 (Jeune Fille da ze -- "Its the Jeune Fille!") so everyone continued to shout it out until the song was eventually played most of the way through and Seth started switching the keyword back and forth between "Love Kyuuu" and "Its the Jeune Fille!"
It was so ridiculous and crazy one of my friends and I started laughing and apparently Mana started staring at us. Ahhhh...Why does this keep happening? It was a funny moment though! (≧∇≦)
Afterwards, the concert subsided into a few more songs, until everyone left the stage for the encore where Mana comes out and plays the drums.
This time around, Mana came out on stage the same way he did last year-- in a blue winter house kimono called a chanchanko (which he often wears during dis inferno), an old Matin Mana T-shirt, a spike collar, and long black half skirt. As he entered the stage, he held up two drum sticks in the shape of a cross and then proceeded to the drum set on stage. Seth then came out to announce the encore and the other members on their instruments. By this time Seth took off his fur jacket and only had on the fish net shirt, but the other members came out wearing the black x red version of a new Moi dix Mois hoodie that was sold this year. Each member was announced on stage one by one, Hayato on guitar, Sugiya on guitar, Ryux on bass, and of course Mana on drums.
the song they did the drum session to this year was Beast Side. Mana's drumming to the song wasn't bad, but it definitely felt different from Hayato's usual playing, and it always tends to feel like they play a little bit short version of songs, I think because Mana gets tired. Hayato is always fun to watch on guitar because hes so animated and excited while playing. Sugiya's guitar was interesting because it was full of stickers like a Superman logo and Cap'n Crunch (Do people in Japan even know who that is!?), I'm guessing it must be his own guitar that hes had for a long time. I also noticed Ryux was really good on bass, but even his stage presence was fun and had great chemistry with Hayato and Sugiya dancing around. At one point he was playing next to Hayato but knocked into the mic stand, but in one swift motion caught it and tilted it back right, but it was funny to watch because his knocking into it was so painfully obvious that everyone saw it and he had this look on his face like "what have I done!?" but when he caught it just in time it looked like it was all meant to happen. Good save! Why can't the other members be this graceful when they trip or make silly mistakes? (I'm kidding of course) (´～｀ヾ)
Once Beast Side ended, they all played one more song together -- Forbidden. Giant balloons filled with smaller balloons came pouring from the upper back end of the concert hall as they started bouncing around the venue with everyone taking turns at hitting them. Even though its fun, it always makes me a bit nervous because it seems kinda dangerous! These huge balloons hit the lights at the top of the stage and Mana always gets so excited he hits them really violently that they tend to hit people right in the face. But I guess its just balloons, right? At one point Mana kicked one and hit popped pretty quickly afterwards and one huge one that hit his guitar popped right in his face and he started swinging his arms around trying to shove them away when he was playing guitar. At one point one of the smaller balloons got in Seth's face so he started hitting it back and forth with a couple right in front of me. Naturally the balloons were hitting the other members too and one fell on the drum set when Hayato was playing. It was kind of a chaotic scene! However, unlike years past, not so many of the huge balloons popped, so a lot of people didn't end up going home with small balloons like they usually tend to.
One of the larger balloons found its way into the back of the stage so a staff person took it back towards the stage exit, but at the end of the song Mana went back and got it from the staff then put on the new blue Moi dix Mois hoodie that went on sale tonight and posed on stage holding the balloon behind his shoulder trying to look cool. The other members gathered around him standing on either side as Seth announced the end of the concert and that he will count "un, deux, trois..." and everyone should jump together at once. Right as he told the members to hold hands, Mana shoved the huge balloon right at Seth and made him carry it around...the balloon was practically as big as seth was, so it looked tiny carrying it! But he eventually put it down on stage so they could all do their final jump together to end the night.
Finally, as it does every year, the Pomp and Circumstance March song played and all the members started walking off stage. The last two to leave were Hayato and Mana. Hayato had a two pairs of drum sticks, giving one to Mana, and both of them threw their drum sticks out into the audience before waving goodbye to everyone and leaving for the night.
Once the concert ended, several people started chanting "Moi dix Mois" hoping for a second encore, but at that point the Goblin music that always plays before the concert starts had started playing again, which meant the concert was truly over.
I think tonight's concert has been one of the most energetic and exciting Moi dix Mois lives in quite a while! The new elements and interaction with the audience really brought things to a new light and everyone seemed to be truly engaged!
I'm looking forward to the March birthday concerts and hope they can live up to the enery tonight!!
By the way, as I mentioned, I have pictures of my coordinate from tonight!
I know this picture isn't terribly better, and my bow was falling off at that point, but its a coordinate I've never worn to a Moi dix Mois concert before! I wanted to do something a bit different, but then I realized what I wanted to do was too similar to something I did last year, so I settled for this. It was a more comfortable change for once.
Also, at the end of the live the staff brought out this Christmas tree. I'm not sure why they waited until after the concert to do it, but I assume it might have something to do with during the concert they were not only talking about the end of the year, but Christmas too. I think Mana just really likes Christmas, to be honest. Of course, tis the season, right?
By the way, I also purchased both hoodies (the red x black version and blue x silver version) tonight, but I'll post more about those later when I post about the Carp Katsu snack.
With that being said, I hope those of you who went to the concert tonight enjoyed yourselves, and I hope those of you who didn't but read this entry got a sense of what it was like!
Now I think its time to finally go to bed! Goodnight! ( ´ ▽ ` )ﾉ
